Sam Blumenthal
(treasurer
& program director for HPNWBBb) began his career in the mid
1960's as a vocal/instrumental music educator in the Cheyenne,
Wyoming public schools. Ten years later, his musical travels led
him through the world of show lounge entertainment and on to that
of retail music merchant in Oregon & Washington.
Another ten years as music education specialist in the retail
business elapsed before he moved on to that of NW district sales
manager for C.G. CONN (which later became United Musical
Instruments). (He officially became the "Conn-Man"). During his
thirteen years with UMI, he also enjoyed playing on his chosen
instruments (the euphonium & the trombone) with the Astoria
Tuba Quartet & his own twelve piece big band - Opus 43.
His vision for an all NW tuba event began during year six of the
original Spokane event (founded by John Baker), and he has since
continued to be the "catalyst" for the annual event.
Sam enjoys helping Robin at her junior high school with beginning band students and the jazz band. Sam and Robin enjoy trying to "keep up" with three daughters, two grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
