Goals of the HPNWBBb
The Harvey Phillips Northwest "Big Brass" Bash is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to bringing the tuba and euphonium community together in a two day festival where the participants can meet and share with great artists on those instruments and experience what it is like to perform with them. There is no other event quite like this in the world.

The environment is that of sharing, and non-competition, and is for tuba and euphonium players of all ages and levels of experience. Ego problems are not allowed to be an issue. Ages of participants currently range from 14 to 87. Average attendance is around 50 participants.

The event consists of rehearsals, a clinic, a recital, and free time where the participants can spend time with the guest artists. The afternoon John Baker/Keating Johnson Commerative Recital features students and our guest artist, students, and established adult groups. The final concert on Sunday afternoon is performed by all participants in a massed tuba ensemble playing classical, jazz, and pop arrangements in a complimentary outdoor public concert setting.

A small registration fee is charged each participant for the two days, which covers expenses for our guest artist, accompanist, T-shirts, flyers, and the music for the Sunday concert. Every participant receives a T-shirt commemorating the event for that year.

The advisory group gives hundreds of hours of time to see that the event goes well for all of the participants. No advisors are paid for their time. Many participants give extra money to ensure the continued success of this event.

The concert and recital are free to the public, and this event serves as a way for the general public to learn about two very important instruments that are often underestimated and unappreciated. We are dedicated to creating interest in our instruments in order to recruit new people who otherwise would never have the chance to discover the joy of playing these two noble instruments.
