About Harvey Phillips
HARVEY G. PHILLIPS G. PHILLIPSIn 2001, upon request by Sam Blumenthal, it was unanimously agreed upon by The Northwest "Big Brass" Bash that the event be re-named The Harvey Phillips Northwest "Big Brass" Bash in honor of the most prolific tubist of our day. Harvey is the epitome of what "Big Brass" Bash is. His willingness to share his wealth of knowledge and experience, and his caring and giving manner, are the symbols of what "Big Brass" Bash stands for.

On October 20th, 2010, the greatest ambassador the tuba has ever known, our Harvey Phillips, passed away in his home outside of Bloomington, IN.

Please see this lovely and inspiring article about Harvey from The Instrumentalist's December 2010 issue as well as this memoriam written by Indiana University.

In 2017, we also lost the grace of Harvey's wife, Carol Ann Phillips, who was another strong pulse of the HPNWBBb. Please read this memoriam celebrating her.
